Dr. Ahmed’s thesis was evaluated by top most geostaticians of the world and the Jury was chaired by none else than the father of Geostatistics, Prof. George Matheron. 

 

 

 
 
Present Position/Responsibility (Scientific):
  1. Leading two research activity in an in-house project under the 11th Five Year Plan of the Govt. of India during 2007-2012.
  2. The project aims in evaluating the aquifer system in the middle and lower Ganga basins and delineate the Arsenic contaminated zones to design safe pumping of potable water for rural areas.
  3. Heading the Indo-French Centre for Groundwater Research as Team Leader (India): an International Research Centre set-up at the National Geophysical Research Institute, Hyderabad in collaboration with BRGM, France for the advanced research in groundwater.
  4. The collaboration aims at carrying out the advanced research to investigate weathered-fractured coupled hard rock aquifers and assess their potential and quality for adaptive groundwater management in such areas.
  5. Leading an Indo-French Network project on Water Sciences (P2R) funded by the Govts of India and France.
  6. An inter-governmental project mainly to interact and discuss the current areas of research in the field of water sciences and bring out new and challenging ideas for collaborative research in the field of groundwater.
    1. Leading several short term projects on Hydrogeology for assessment and management of groundwater in hard rock aquifers.

Study of weathered-fractured granitic aquifers for quantitative and qualitative assessment of the resources including numerical modeling under a prestigious Indo-French collaborative project sponsored by the IFCPAR, New Delhi.
 
Study of Fluoride contamination in groundwater in hard rock regions and their migration as a pilot project of UNESCO
 
Development of Decision Support Tool for Groundwater Management (DST-GW): A predictive tool that work on groundwater balance on global watershed scale and also predict based on present as well as the extended scenarios. The tool presently works on the MS-Excel environment and is developed for granitic over-exploited aquifers.
 
Delineation and regionalization of Arsenic contaminated groundwater zones and designing of suitable pumping schemes for groundwater management in middle and lower Ganga basin.
 

Computer codes (in fortran 77 with buplot graphic support) developed:

1.        PLAYG: A graphic interactive software using modified variogram formula to simultaneous calculation and modeling a variogram or cross-variogram. The software is extremely useful for the data collected on the isolated points.

2.       KOUED: For cross-validation and estimation of a parameter either on regular uniform grid or on isolated points using the methods of Ordinary Kriging, Kriging with an external drift and Universal Kriging.

3.        RBFE: For cross-validation and estimation of a parameter using a number of Radial Basis Functions.

4.       KRIGNET: To optimize a data collection network based on a pre-set Kriging estimation variance.

5.       SAMG: It helps prepare the extensive input file to the aquifer modeling software NEWSAM and NEWVAR using the minimum field data and the execution options.

  2. Sept. 1988: Installation of a few geostatistical software at the Centre d’Informatique Geologique, ENSMP, Fontainebleau, developed during doctoral research and participation in the 3rd International Geostatistical Congress at Avignon, Sept 4-9.
  3. July 1989: Discussion on the advanced research on simulating flow in low permeability rock aquifers particularly in situation of coupled weathered and fractured aquifer system at the Centre d’Informatique Géologique, Fontainebleau.
